Howdy fellow yarnoholics! Today I’d like introduce you to the Burrumbuttock Hayrunners of Australia.
Parts of Australia are currently in the midst of a long drought. Drought can and does devastate local communities, the impact of which can be felt by towns further afield. The Burrumbuttock Hayrunners is a charity providing a lifeline for the farmers and the communities they live in. Volunteers donate time and trucks to bring donations of hay, food, toys and other necessities to farmers struggling to keep their livestock alive and provide for their families during drought.
Gum Leaf Crochet is hosting a fundraising project in support of the Barrumbuttock Hayrunners. Jill is creating blankets made from granny squares – the blankets will be sold and the monies raised will go to the Hayrunners so they can continue their work within the farming community.
If you would like to contribute, the following are Jill’s requests:
8″ Crochet Squares in cotton or cotton blend 8 ply/DK/light worsted yarn. Colours Jill has chosen for this project are whites, blues, greens or browns. The squares should be in a single colour. Any type of granny square – plain, patterned or textured. Please be sure to sew in your ends. Do add extra rows if your square falls short of the 8″ in size. Do include your name, where you live and a little message if you like. The collection is open until 31 March 2019.
If you do not live in Australia, be sure to factor in postal time. It took just under 3 weeks for my parcel to arrive from the UK – I sent it 1st Class tracked. For more details, including the address to send the squares to, please contact @gumleaf_crochet . Jill can also be found on Instagram.
If you do not crochet and would like to participate in Jill’s project some other way, monetary and yarn contributions are most welcome. For yarn contributions, 8-ply/DK/light worsted in cotton or a cotton blend. Jill needs yarn for joining and making up squares. 50 gm balls/skeins/hanks is enough to make one 8″ square.
All for today folks…have a lovely, yarny day!
